Cailleach is the Crone Goddess of the Snow & Winter. A divine hag & deity of weather, creation & ancestor connections, Cailleach in Scotland is also known as 'Beira,' The Queen of Winter. It is said that Cailleach is the creator of mountains, but as she as known for creating such landscapes, which can serve as obstacle for some, she is also known to conquer them. Her aged wisdom guides her thoughts & actions, with clarity & precision. In legend it is said she reigns the darker half of the year, turning to stone again once Beltane comes. With her strong power over Winter, she tends to make it last as long as she can, but giving a break of sunshine & a bit of warmth on February 1st, only so she can gather enough wood for fire, before going back into the dark cold of winter again. She is a symbol of the elemental powers of nature & how they can affect us. She is a symbol of destruction & creation. A symbol of beginning & end, wisdom & learning, youth & old age. Goddess Cailleach is a reminder that all things come to an end, but with it starts something new.
